Despite the poor weather today, the kids had a great time at our field trip to Heritage Park! Thank you to the parent volunteers who offered up their time to come out and share this experience! 

The children really liked the puffed wheat squares that we had for a snack at Heritage Park so here is the recipe if you would like to make them at home:  

1/4 cup butter or margarine

1/3 cup corn syrup

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 1/2 tbsp.  cocoa

6 cups puffed wheat

Combine butter, syrup, sugar and cocoa in saucepan.  Stir over medium heat until it begins to bubble.  Remove immediately.

Pour over puffed wheat in bowl.  Stir until all puffed wheat is coated.  Press firmly in greased 8 x 8 inch (20 x 20 cm) pan.  Cool.  Let stand awhile to set before cutting.  Cut with sharp knife in 16 squares.

Heritage Park -Thursday

We will be going on the field trip from 8:30 - 12:30 so if you normally go home for lunch, please bring your lunch so you can eat it here after the field trip.  You will not be going home for lunch tomorrow.

Today we talked about farms long ago and farms today.  We colored horses, tractors, barns and quonsets and as a class we wrote about them.

Welcome Back!

We hope you had a great Spring Break!

We completed our fourteenth spelling test today which continued to include a total of eight words -- six words from this week's list plus two "mystery" words from previous spelling lists.  Our spelling books and a new word list for next week's spelling homework will come home tomorrow.

Please fill out the forms that have been sent home and return them with $10.00.

Spring Break is from March 25-April 10.

Classes will resume on Monday April 11.

Spelling homework is due on the first day back to school after Spring Break.

It's almost time for our Spring Concert!  Our concert will be held on Tuesday April 19th.  Our portion of the concert will be to show all the people who live and work in our neighborhood.  Children will need to be dressed in black pants for our afternoon and evening performances. We will be providing them with additional costume pieces.  Also, we are asking all students to bring in a pair of sunglasses.  Please send sunglasses with your child after Spring Break so that we can start practicing with them.

Today students had a math test on our unit on Two More and Two Less.  They had to show two more and two less than a given dice, dominoe, playing card and power of ten card.  Ask your child how they think they did! 

Today we made Chocolate Chip Cookies!

Then we did some "How to" writing to tell how we made them.

We used the following words to begin each part:  "First, Then, Next, Finally".

Here is the Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe if you want to make some at home:

2 1/4 cups flour                                         1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt                                      1/2 cup boiling water

2 cups rolled oats                                     1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup margarine                                        1 cup chocolate chips

1 cup brown sugar

Cream margarine and brown sugar together.  Dissolve soda in 1/2 cup of boiling water.  Add water and vanilla to butter and sugar mixture.  Mix well.  Stir flour, oats, salt and chocolate chips together in a separate bowl.  Put dry ingredients into butter and sugar mixture.  Drop by spoonfuls on the cookie sheets.  Bake for 12 - 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
