10 School Days Left in Grade One!

Byblos Bakery is coming to visit!
A nutritionist from Byblos bakery will be visiting Crossing Park School to do a presentation for our grade one students on Monday June 20, 2011.  She will be teaching the students about healthy lunches and snacks that they can make using pita pockets.

Each student will have an opportunity to make a tasty snack during this presentation.  The pita pockets are supplied by the bakery, but we are responsible for providing the fillings.

Therefore, we are asking students to bring in $1.00 to help the grade one teachers purchase the food that will be required.  Please send $1.00 with your son / daughter by Friday June 17, 2011.  Thank you for your support!

Social Studies
We had a special guest in our classroom today!
Her name is Miss LaChapelle and she teaches French to grades 5 - 9 in our school.
She taught us how to say the colors in French and a French song about body parts.
She also talked about how we have two official languages in Canada
(English & French).
That is why the containers of food that we purchase is written in English and French.

We also talked about other cultures in Canada
and the traditions that are celebrated by the people in these cultures.
Below are some of the pictures that we used as a basis for our discussion.

Then we wrote in our journals about the traditions that we celebrate in our families.
Parents - Please discuss your traditions and celebrations with your son or daughter.
